Side Pull Headstalls, How and Why.......

Side Pull Headstalls are used as pictured,
without a bit, and are becoming very
popular in the training arena and for the
experienced trail horse and rider.

Many trainers have found the side pull
headstall great for horses who do not
except a bit very well and are fussy
and tense and unable to relax and learn….

It is also excellent for horses that have been
injured in their mouth or sensitive due to
harsh training conditions.

The side pull is fast becoming the choice
in early stages of ground driving and teaching
the basics of turning and stopping.

A Quality leather side pull headstall or bridle
as you see pictured, is designed for the reins
to connect to the rings on each side of the
horses cheeks allowing the rider to communicate
very clearly left and right…….

Different nosebands are available depending on
how much pressure you want to excerpt on their
nose. The single lariat rope nose gives the most
in a narrow area across the nose. The double
rope spreads the pressure out. The flat leather
nose gives the least amount of pressure for the
more trained and experienced horse…..

Trainers in the natural horsemanship arenas
have been using different types of side pull
headstalls for a long time…….

The Buckaroo Cowboy Way of Life........

You all that love and enjoy the chance, as much as our family
does, to experience the western cowboy way of life, should
take the time to check out Bogus Creek Outfitters and ranch
in the beautiful Treasure valley of Boise, Idaho!

We went on their sleigh ride dinner up at Bogus Basin
in a beautiful snowy winter setting for without doubt
the best evening of buckaroo style dinner and
entertainment in the West.......

Outstanding food in a remote cabin served the cowboy way
with flair of cowboy poetry and western hospitality.....

At their ranch their family also offers facilities for weddings, parties
and corporate gatherings in a western town setting.

It is obvious their family loves promoting the western family
way of life as much as we do here at Buckaroo Leather....

We enjoyed seeing the Buckaroo Cowboy way of life is alive
and thriving out there if you take a moment to look for it!!!!

Why Nosebands & Tiedown straps........

What are They and How do We use Tie-downs and Nosebands

Nosebands and Tiedown straps are used in combination

to help teach your Horse to keep their head
and nose down and in a tucked position
and not to throw their head around......

It is important when you are in performance
events that your horse keeps their head down
in a balanced position for better performance
and also so their head doesn’t obstruct your view...

Some horses have a real problem and bad habit with this
and require professional advice and or training to correct.....

There are training methods with Martingales, etc.
to help with these problems....

You will want to have your Tiedown adjusted
so your horse can move their head up to a
natural position and not overly restricted.

It is important to be careful not to have the
Tiedown adjusted to short and tight.

The Caveson style noseband also has an
important use to teach your horse from
gaping and opening their mouth to far.

The bit will not work as designed and does
not look good if your horses mouth is gaping open.

The caveson is used without a tiedown strap.

Western Horse Halters, Styles and Fit

Western Style Horse Halters

There are many styles of Halters on the market today.
There are many made for specific purposes, but most
are purchased because of personal preference.....

All Halters are designed to basically to keep you horse tied or near you while you are working with them. Leather Horse Halters are designed with eye appeal and detail to quality
in finish and hardware. The #LH130 Ultimate Halter
pictured at the right is made with Stainless steel
hardware and Hermann Oak Harness leather
lined with supper soft glovey chap leather.

Halters with wide leather nosebands are becoming
the hot popular item now because the can be so
personalized with hand tooling, conchas, bling, horses names
and award lettering......

Halter fit is important, as you do not want it to tight,
because it will rub and be uncomfortable to your horse.
The two finger distance rule under the chin strap,
throat latch strap, and crown over the top of
the head strap is a good rule of thumb.....

Some halters have a adjustable chin strap, just be careful
not to get it to tight.
